
Biljana Popeska is a Professor at the Faculty of Educational Sciences at Goce Delcev University in Stip, Republic of North Macedonia at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Since August 2023, she has been affiliated with the University of Luxembourg, Department of Education and Social Work. Her main research interest is in the didactics of physical education for primary education, PETE, sport pedagogy, motor development of children, and holistic learning through physical education. Her research work has been presented in over 100 scientific and professional publications in international journals and proceedings books. She is the author of two books “Motor development of children in Preschool and Early School Period” (2022); “Movement Games” (2018), one Handbook “Fundaments of Physical Education for Preschool and Primary School Children” and two Manuals for students “Manual for PE school practice” and Manual “10 steps for outdoor education”. Popeska is a co-author of two chapters of the book on physical education. She has more than 50 conference paper presentations globally, many of them as keynote speakers or invited speakers.
Prof. Dr. Biljana Popeska is a Professor at the Faculty of Educational Sciences at Goce Delcev University in Stip, Republic of North Macedonia, where she teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Since August 2023, she has also been affiliated with the University of Luxembourg, specifically in the Department of Education and Social Work. Her main research interests include the didactics of physical education for primary education, physical education teacher education (PETE), sport pedagogy, children's motor development, and holistic learning through physical education. Popeska has presented her research in more than 80 scientific and professional publications in international journals and conference proceedings. She is the author of two books: “Motor Development of Children in Preschool and Early School Period” (2022) and “Movement Games” (2018). Additionally, she has written a handbook titled “Fundamentals of Physical Education for Preschool and Primary School Children,” along with two student manuals: “Manual for PE School Practice” and “10 Steps for Outdoor Education”. Popeska is also a co-author of two chapters in a book on physical education. Over the past seven years, she has been involved in project consortiums for more than ten applied and research projects focused on quality physical education, improving PE teachers' qualifications in outdoor education, intercultural education through physical education, meaningful PE, and promoting health-enhancing physical activity (HEPA) for adolescents, university students, and young females. In these projects, she has contributed as a national coordinator and/or expert. She has been part of research teams involved in studies such as the HopSport Brain Break study and the PACS study, coordinated by the Global Community Health Foundation, as well as national studies related to the professional development of teachers in the Republic of North Macedonia, focusing on conditions and perspectives. She has also researched the competencies of preschool teachers for intercultural communication.
She is an active participant in conferences, having presented over 50 papers globally, many of which were as a keynote or invited speaker. She serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the journals "Research in Kinesiology" (RIK) (ISSN 1857-7679) and "Activities in Physical Education and Sport" (ISSN 1857-7687), both published by the Federation of Sports Pedagogues of Macedonia. Additionally, she is a guest editor for the Journal Sustainability's Special Issue titled "The Role of Physical Activity in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals."
Her work focuses on advocating for physical education, supporting the continuing professional development (CPD) of physical education teachers, and promoting physical activity and an active lifestyle in schools and among students. In this role, she is a member of various national and international associations. Popeska holds positions on the Executive Board of the European Physical Education Association (EUPEA), serves as the assistant national delegate for FIEPS Europe, and is a board member of the World Physical Education Alliance (WPEA). She is also a member of the International Network for Sport and Health Sciences (INSHS), the European Primary PE Network (EPPEN), and the national representative for the Association of Global Community Health (GCH) and the FLV program. At the national level, she is a board member of the Federation of Sports Pedagogues of Macedonia and represents Goce Delcev University at the Federation for University Sport in Macedonia. She served as the Head of the University Sport and Cultural Center at Goce Delcev University for ten years until 2023 and currently serves as a board member.
