Dr Kyle Pushkarenko is an Assistant Professor in the School of Human Kinetics and Recreation at Memorial University of Newfoundland. 

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Saskatchewan, a Master of Arts in Adapted Physical Education from McGill University, and a PhD in Adapted Physical Activity from the University of Alberta. He brings over 15 years of experience in programme planning across activity, exercise, and recreation, along with more than 10 years of administrative experience in coordinating community-based adapted physical activity programmes for individuals across the lifespan.

Dr Pushkarenko’s research focuses on inclusive physical literacy and adapted physical activity, with particular emphasis on developmental disabilities, ableism in practice, and participant-centred programme design. His work explores barriers and facilitators to participation, stakeholder perspectives, and experiential approaches to programme development and curriculum design. He has presented his research nationally and internationally and is an active advocate for inclusive physical literacy and meaningful participation for children and individuals experiencing disability.

In addition to his academic role, Dr Pushkarenko serves as the Special Interest Group Lead for Inclusion with the International Physical Literacy Association. He is actively involved with several professional organisations, including Canadian Sport for Life, the North American Federation of Adapted Physical Activity, and Physical and Health Education Canada. His teaching portfolio includes courses in diversity and inclusion, health promotion, adapted physical activity, and physical literacy.
