Professor Dr. Xindong Ma
Head of Division of Sport Science & Physical Education, Tsinghua University | Doctoral Supervisor

Professor Ma leads the Sport Science and Physical Education division at Tsinghua University. His research focuses on the relationship between exercise, brain health, and behavior. He emphasizes that exercise, diet, and sleep are interrelated behavioral factors, with cognition playing a central role in maintaining them.

He views exercise as a form of brain training that enhances physical regulation, emotional well-being, and overall life quality. Aerobic and strength training, when combined with healthy eating and sleep, act like prescription medicine—offering significant long-term benefits.

Professor Ma is particularly interested in the effects of physical activity on brain health throughout the life course. His research explores how daily activity, sleep, and environmental factors influence cognitive function and behavior. He aims to identify key cognitive and behavioral barriers to physical activity and develop sustainable strategies to promote active, healthy lifestyles.
