Hunan Normal University’s School of Physical Education successfully held its 14th Traditional Sports Professional Skills Exhibition Competition at the Xingjian Gymnasium, showcasing student expertise in martial arts, dragon dancing, taekwondo, and karate. Organized by the Traditional Chinese Sports Department, the event promoted the philosophy of “learning through competition, practicing through learning, and applying through practice.”

Students from across Traditional Chinese Sports, Physical Education, and Sports Human Science programs participated, demonstrating both physical proficiency and cultural commitment. University leaders, including Li Bo, Party Committee Secretary, and Guo Xianzhong, Vice Dean, attended the event, recognizing its academic and cultural value.

Group performances were a highlight of the competition. The martial arts events featured strong team coordination and technical precision, while the dragon dance delivered an engaging, dynamic display. Taekwondo and karate matches demonstrated quick reflexes and sharp technique. A student participant shared, “Preparing for the event challenged me both mentally and physically. It significantly improved my skills and deepened my understanding of traditional sports.”

Competition outcomes reflected the high standard of training. The “Invincible Saber and Spear Team” (23.1) took first place in group martial arts with 9.45 points, followed by “Happy Dou Di Team” and “Little Head Dad Team.” The “24th Routine Class (Second Team)” won the dragon dance with 9.35 points. In individual martial arts events, Li Xiaoxu, Wang Ruishuo, and Fan Yilong led their categories with top scores.

The competition exemplifies the department’s “trinity” training model—linking classroom instruction, practical training, and assessment through competition. Faculty emphasized how such events bridge theory and application, supporting both skill development and cultural inheritance.

As Hunan Normal University advances reforms in physical education, this exhibition reinforces its mission to nurture excellence in traditional Chinese sports education.
