Professor Dr. David Grecic Recognised for Distinguished Service in Global Physical Education

CUPEST is delighted to announce that Professor David Grecic, Project Director for the HNNU/University of Central Lancashire Joint Programme in Sport and Physical Education & Chair of CUPEST organizational committee, has been awarded the prestigious Thurin Award for Distinguished Service in International Physical Education. The award was presented at the 19th FIEPS Europe Conference, held in Antalya, Turkey in April 2025.

The Thurin Award is one of the highest honours bestowed by the International Federation for Physical Education and Sport (FIEPS), recognizing individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the field of international physical education. Professor Grecic’s recognition reflects decades of impactful work in sport pedagogy, leadership, and curriculum innovation.

In addition to receiving this award, Professor Grecic also presented two of his latest research initiatives at the conference.

1. “Game Intelligence in Sport” – This project explores how tactical understanding and decision-making skills can be identified and cultivated within team sport environments.

2. “PE Teachers’ Perceptions of Physical Literacy” – This study examines how physical literacy is interpreted and embedded within school-based PE practice, offering insight into pedagogical alignment and professional development needs.

Professor Grecic’s work continues to shape both academic discourse and practical application in physical education worldwide. His contributions reflect CUPEST’s ongoing mission to lead research and innovation that improves teaching, coaching, and lifelong engagement in physical activity across diverse populations and contexts.
