With particular expertise in talent development environments, how epistemology impacts behaviour, coach education, and teacher learning, David's scholarship has led to collaborative projects with national governing bodies of sport, professional sports academies in the UK and overseas, schools, colleges and international universities. David is a Board Member of the World Physical Education Alliance, a member of the European Council of Research in Physical Education and School Sport (CEREPS) and the England delegate to the International Federation of Physical Education and Sport (FIEPS). At UCLan he is on the steering groups for the Behaviour, Sport and Rehabilitation Research Institute, and the Centre for Applied Sport, Physical Activity and Performance.
David also leads the Institute of Coaching and Performance within the School of Health, Social Work and Sport. The Institute offers Postgraduate Research programmes and supports expert practitioners solve real world problems and create bespoke solutions for themselves and their organizations. David has published in Physical Education, Physical Literacy, Talent Development, Skill Acquisition, Decision Making, Transnational Education and Organizational Management. His work contributes to UCLan’s research portfolio by supporting the Developing Expertise theme. He has also written a PE and Talent Development curriculum - The CARE Curriculum of Pupil and Athlete Development, that underpins the ethos and delivery of the HNNU/UCLan Joint Degree in Sport and Physical Education.
